Parrot Pavilion

Steel, canvas "1040 x 1300 x 600 cm (tent construction) 2100 x 2800 cm (total area)"
On display from August 31 The Parrot Pavilion by Nico Dockx of VOET architecture and Studio Zuidervaart is inspired by the structure of a spider web. The structure moves together with man and nature like a living organism and has minimal impact on the environment. Over the five-week period, eighteen canvases are hung within the tube structure. Nico Dockx invites several guests to work on these canvases. The pavilion symbolically 'sails' into the city and occupies public space. The concepts of sustainability and democracy are woven into the Parrot Pavilion's construction and programme. The pavilion was built for the first time in Waregem in the summer of 2023 on the initiative of Be-Part, a platform for contemporary visual art. Now the pavilion is going to Kortrijk. The original materials are being reused. The pavilion is a meeting place for artists and the audience: a creative sanctuary for discussion, panel discussions, artistic encounters … Nico Dockx put together a programme featuring artists from various disciplines. For instance, you can sample a folk dinner, dance to a concert series or listen to in-depth conversations with artists here. In addition, the pavilion is open to local organisations, providing fertile ground for community building and the emancipation of various local groups and accommodating an exciting programme that highlights Kortrijk as a vibrant, diverse city (of art). The Parrot Pavilion's full programme is available on the website.
