Old Tjikko, Mörkret, Sweden shows a vast snowy landscape in the Dalarna province of Sweden. A lone, almost bare tree sits amid all the white. It is the oldest tree in the world. Below the earth's surface, the roots of this unique organism have been writhing for over 9,565 years. The image confronts us with the steadfastness of nature when it is allowed to do its thing in a landscape without people. Old Tjikko is named after the dog that accompanied scientist Leif Kullman on his discovery of the tree in 2002.
