Lee Wen

1957-2019, Singapore
Lee Wen was a multidisciplinary artist whose work focused on social identity. His art practice mainly advocated anti-disciplinary forms of art, such as performance art. This became his main means of expression. As a pioneer, he helped to shape performance art in Asia. When he stayed in London, he often faced questions about his identity and the purpose of art. His art evolved from a critique of Orientalism to a practice that reflected on freedom, climate change, modesty and religious practices.
