Especially for Kortrijk she created new work centred around seven women: Luna de Rosa, Carmen Gheorghe, Delia Grigore, Vera Lacková, Simonida Selimović, Selma Selman and Monika Szewczyk. They are all artists and/or activists who champion the rights of Roma women.
These new textile works are presented in the monumental Gothic Hall of the historic city hall of Kortrijk, a place that has accommodated important conferences and other major events over the centuries. In the Middle Ages, city halls used to be decorated with precious textiles made locally in Flanders.
On 6, 7 and 8 September, the Kortrijk Triennial partners up with Texture, the museum of flax and textiles, to organise a workshop with Małgorzata Mirga-Tas in the museum's textile studio. The artist will be teaching workshop participants to paint with scraps of fabric based on stories they carry with them or want to share.
