Motoi Yamamoto est né en 1966 à Onomichi, dans la préfecture d’Hiroshima au Japon. Il vit actuellement à Kanazawa. Il a tragiquement perdu sa jeune sœur en 1995, des suites d’une tumeur au cerveau. Cet événement l’a poussé à arrêter la peinture pour se consacrer pleinement à des installations monumentales à base de sel.
